Research on long-tailed classification robustness has suggested that balancing or removing data from overrepresented tasks or subgroups (opens in new tab) is an effective method for ensuring good performance. Nevertheless, these insights are not fully utilized or explored when it comes to training VLMs, which at times have favored scale over careful data balancing.
